Sensation M901 with good for movies too?
« on: 18 Sep 2011, 03:12 am »
Hello everyone, I am in need of some advice.  I have been reading stuff on the m901 sensations and everyone seems to agree its great for music.
My question is if anyone is using them with movies and tv and if so how the bass and rest of the sound is like. :)

Thank you all for your time

Crazy Nocturne (nice handle ),

I have a Sensation M451 w/ Sonicap capacitor upgrades & tube buffer. I run it full range to a pair of GR Research N-3 transmission line speakers.

The Sensation amp is not good, but VERY GOOD w/ movies & television! (keeping in mind particularly w/ a television feed, that there  are often front end limitations w/ that audio).

Bass is prominent, but is more detailed/ refined not a bloated/ boomy mess like you get w/ many AVR's (like the Denon I had prior for home theater).

Dialogue is excellent w/ the Sensation as well. Often w/ the Denon AVR hooked-up to a center channel upgraded w/ a better Skiing Ninja  crossover, we still strained to pick-up voices.  With the Sensation & N3's (utilizing a B & G planar tweeter), it has never been an issue.

I have used the M901 with a few different speakers and it has been stellar for movies with them all. I think movies really shows off the capabilities of the M901 because of the sudden dynamic contrasts and crystal clear sound that allows you to hear everything in the mix.

 Of course!

I don't have a Sensation but I have a modded TWO.2 which is.. sort of like a Sensation but with only one input. I also run it with Magnepan speakers, which is normally considered a music speaker.

Last week I picked up the movie Master and Commander on BluRay and I can attest to the fact that the sound of this combo with movies is... better than any theater you will ever visit.

I really enjoyed watching movies using my Sensation and my Usher s520 speakers. The sound was so clear, I could understand everything that was being said; it really enhances the enjoyment. Plus the line out out means that you can use your choice of sub—essential for action films.

Of course you have to remember that the Sensation can only do 2.1, unless you get a couple of them I guess.  :o

Hello,
I am waiting for the newborn to arrive to use in a video set-up. I already own an svs active subwoofer and i think if you wanna have a life like movie experience you need a subwoofer . In the past virtue amp did have some interference problems with certain television sets and i was advised to wait for the one on this website. The special effects are less spectacular with a 2.0 or 2.1 but they surely sound more natural than a lot of cheap loudspeakers with loads of amplication. Greetings, Eduard
