I paid $99 for mine a few years ago and felt like it was a steal.

Thanks jeffh....I'm putting together a little system for friends who lost everything in a fire. This will be great for them.

Cool, Glad to see you guys taking advantage of this.  I would have bought one if I had not recently acquired an awesome Virtue Audio One.2 for my desktop system

anyone know the difference between the dta-100 and dta-100a? I've read the earlier models had channel imbalance issues ... maybe 100a is the newer version with this issue addressed?

Mine is the DTA-100 that I bought when PE first started selling them. It's been in use for a couple of years now with no issues.

I repair lots of vintage speakers for a friend who sells used gear and I test them with the DTA. I get a kick out of hearing this tiny amp drive those speakers from the golden age of sound that I lusted after in my youth.

It's real power is not 50 wpc into 8 ohms but more like half that. I did try the DTA with some 4 ohm 84db Aerial Acoustics and it drove them quite well in my bedroom.

This wouldn't be the first small amplifier whose "labeled" wattage rating was at a fairly high THD.  Although it can be debated whether you can hear the difference between .001%, .01% or .1% THD, 5.0% THD is a level of distortion from which you would probably want to back off the volume.  The 50W/ch rating is at <5.0% THD, but the rating at a more commonly compared <.01% THD is 30W/ch.

Although the minimum speaker impedance is rated at 6 ohms and the manual does state "Note: Operating this unit with a 4 Ohm load may result in damage to the amplifier and void the warranty.", the fact that Poultrygeist used it sucessfully with a 4 ohm / 84dB speaker underscores that the operative word is "may", and a different "4 ohm" nominal speaker may or may not present a more difficult load, so the temperature of the amp would be something to at least be aware of if running lower impedance speakers.

This puppy would make a nice desk top amp as it's just a tad larger than a pack of cigs and smaller than the PE Topping. The full size headphone output sounds pretty good with my Grado's. The front mounted mini jack is also a plus but I haven't tried it yet.

It never ran beyond warm with the 4 ohm 84db speakers. I've never had a problem pairing any of my other T-amps ( Topping, Sure, SI ) with 4 ohm speakers several of which express their power rating into 4 ohms.

I recently mounted a Parts Express BOFU FR driver in an old Realistic cab of the correct volume and the DTA-100 made it sing like I couldn't believe.

This amp is a no brainer at $49 and will embarrass many higher priced units.

Does anyone know how these compare to the SMSL SA-50 or a Muse M50 or one of the other copies like these?

It's a little more for these two but the internal components seem to be a little better. With shipping and a PSU it's about ten bucks more.

Any thoughts or experience?

Thanks
