Just picked up from the 'Bay

My recent, sudden high freq hearing loss seems permanent (lost freq above 4K on rt ear), so I picked this up from the 'Bay for a song. Its an ADC Sound Shaper II IC.   I have never tended to play much with tone controls, although I have always preferred to have them on my pre-amps. Currently am using a AVA Insight EC, and will run the EQ through the convenient extrernal processor loop (EPL) to see if I can boost some of those freq's I am missing on the right ear.

Could be worse....could be raining.

Sorry to hear about the hearing loss. There are several of us at AC that have similar hearing problems.  My right ear is about the same, but the loss has been gradual, going back to my early teens.  Let us know how the ADC equalizer works out for you.

I hope you found a solution.

If we were to be honest with ourselves, we would acknowledge that the hair-splitting purist audio days are over with for many of us. At this point, I'm just glad to be able to enjoy music at all. A lot of tweeters are going to waste out there.

That thing is heavy, but solid built. I assume it needs some maintenance, to sound at his best.
You got a nice Eq.

Oh yeah? It hasn't rained here in Austin in months. Everything is relative brother.
Sorry to go OT

I had my hearing checked a couple months ago as I noticed some loss in my right ear. Not sure how permanent it is but above 4K there was degradation. If I take care not to expose my right ear to loud sustained noise it seems alright.
Curious how the EQ works for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. What has complicated my sudden onset hearing loss is that I am also experienceing hyperacousis (sensitivity to loud noises/environments) and tinnitus (ringing in the ear).

Using the EQ has made a difference. I dont use it for all listening (lots of my LPs from the 70s,80s are plenty bright) but when I need a little treble boost, the ADC works well, and in the EPL of my AVA Insight pre-amp, contributes no loss or dergadation of the music signal.   Works flawlessly and seems a good buy for $59.00.  Not much helps the hyersensitivity or ringing, though.
