Let's put it this way:  I've been an audiophile for 53 years.

My first real "hi fi" system  (circa 1958) consisted of an Eico integrated amp (built from a kit; it used a pair of EL34 output tubes and sounded great), a cheap Garrard changer (frowned on by my young audio buddies but all that I could afford), a GE VRII magnetic cartridge (the pickup that helped hi fi get on its feet), and an AR2 speaker ($89 in unfinished pine).

That system opened up a new world for me

Similar experience...started with an Eico then a used HH Scott AM-FM stereo receiver, Rek O Kut turntable, etc., then moved to HH Scott integrated amp and FM stereo tuner kits, etc.
