Great idea Hal, but the naked ladies win!!!!
I'm thinking how do we get musician folk to talk about equipment and why they got this or that, or "the sound I heard from the piano through that amp was so real it was like I was sitting there playing the piece myself".
Like when I audition equipment the first thing I listen to is how the drums sound, if its a recording I'm familiar with all the better. I have a Lee Ritenour CD "Smoke N' Mirrors" (great album by the way)and the opening tune has this drum tid bit that swiftly gets the rack toms and then down to the floor tom and its the firt thing I listen to because I played that same fill many times in my life and a couple times when I played it the sound was scary real like I was sitting there and a drum set popped up in my room I played the fill and the kit went away that fast--first time was with Virtue TWO.2, Piano CD player and my JBL 4312A's, Second time was with the first MP301 amp I had and a pair of big old JBL-N310ii towers with dual 8" woofers and both setups were my permanent setup for at least 6 months.....when I get the sound I used to hear when I played I do everything I can to get the equipment and make note of the other components so I can reproduce the synergy if the Moon is in alignment or not. Its fun, there are probably better ways to evaluate gear but that is mine.
