Nuforce Icon RJ45 cable question: banana plug tips cut, what do I do?

I just picked up a second-hand Nuforce Icon (http://www.nuforce.com/hp/products/icon/index.php).

However, the previous owner strangely cut off the banana plug ends of the supplied RJ45 cat 5 speaker cable. All that's left is exposed RJ45 internal wiring (4 strands on each side where a plug was cut off).

Can I just twist the exposed wires and just connect them to my speaker terminals?

Or can I just twist the exposed wires and connect them to some regular banana plugs?

I know that I can get new 2m RJ45 speaker cables from Nuforce but considering that the might end up costing 1/3 the price I paid for my Icon, I'd like to salvage the supplied ones first.

Thanks!

The Nuforce Icon page only has a picture of the RJ45 pin assignments. Assuming this is for those who want to DIY their own cable from scratch?

If so, does that mean that for the + and - connection, I can twist everything (except DO NOT CONNECT!) and either connect to banana plugs or straight into the speaker terminals?

So, three cables twisted into + and other three for - each for Left and Right speakers?

I actually have the same question - can you twist the cut off banana plugs into bare cable and plug the other end of the bare cable into your speakers?

Did you get any wiser Shawn?

Thank you very much in advance for help.

Of course I mean can you twist the cable that now is missing its banana plugs into bare cable...etc.

Hi,
Sure, it's possible to twist the wire, but just be careful that the networking cables are not very flexible and should not experience repetitive twisting or bending.

Check out the online manual a bit more closely -- IIRC one of the wiring diagrams is for the "special" connections that allow the Icon to equalize for the nuforce S1 speakers.  This is signaled by a specific pin cross-connection in the RJ45.  If you wire them up this way, it's going to sound really odd if you are not using S1's!

If they have a specific diagram for the banana cables, then follow that one.

Maybe Jason could jump in here with a definitive answer?  (hint, hint)
