ARC PH-5 help.............
« on: 13 Aug 2011, 09:04 pm »
Out of the blue my ARC PH-5 phono-pre has developed a 'hum' out of the right channel. I've done the basic tube swapping, (4 6922's) with no change in the condition. I'll call ARC customer service Monday morning but was wondering if any other thoughts, ideas as to 'what's up' ??

It might sound like a stupid question but have you swapped over the l +r from the turntable to see if the hum swaps sides? If it swaps then the problem is somewhere in your table.

Make sure all your interconnects have clean and tight grounds, especially if they are the screw on type like WBT.  I got a hum from loose IC nut just last week.

You can also swap the PH5 outputs in the same manner electricbear suggested to confirm it is PH5 and not something downstream.

Yeah, make sure the ground wire didn't pop off.  I did that once by accident, bumped it when behind the rack.

if you're reffering to the right 'out' from the phono-pre being conected to the left 'in' on the pre-amp......yes.
