Sure Electronics DIY 2x100w Tripath Amp trials
« on: 5 Jul 2011, 12:12 pm »
I have two of these simple Sure kits from Parts Express to try as part of a biamp scheme for my speakers. PE has a chassis for the kits available but on back order at this point, so just using the boards.

At $44 for the board, $10 for the volume control and $20 for the chassis they are very affordable.   I am going to try it with 24VDC from batteries and see what happens.

Looking for feedback from folks that have tried them in applications on the good and bad.  So far in trials with some test speakers and a switching power supply the first board sounds very good.  This is using the volume control add on with the PA board.

I use one of these boards (unmodified) connected to my NAD 1020 preamp and have run several different vintage speakers with them and they sound very tube like in their presentation. I have other solid state amps in the $100-$150 range and they don't come close to providing the smooth sound that the Sure board gives. I also have another 20w T amp and it also sounds good just doesn't have the "slam" the bigger Sure amp has.

Currently have the amp powering some Epicure 20+ amps that have twin EPI Burhoe tweeters and woofers and they power them extremely well.

greenmark59,
Thanks for the feedback!

Looking forward to when the chassis are available in mid July to finish the two and get them in the system.

I'm interested in the outcome of your project using the Sure board from PE.  I've been looking at the Hifimediy T4 x 180@8ohms.  It's also uses a Tripath TK2050 chip.

Please keep us informed.

According to the PE website the chassis are now available to ship from the backorder.

Just waiting to see when they arrive.
