Cabinets finished
« on: 5 Apr 2004, 08:09 pm »
Hi, the cabinets for my speakers are finished.

http://www.videoacustic.com/sferrairo/lowres_1801_fotos/black%20painting/

They are "almost" black piano finish. Now, waiting for the kit to arrive into spain. By the way... I'm the one with white shirt in the last photo.

Hope you like it.

One Q. ...

- Is ppl using spikes for the speakers ?
- Which ones and what kind of fixture is the most used ?

Nice looking cabinets - hadn't really thought about the piano finish for mine.  Being in the construction phase particularly enjoyed the closeups that let me see the shape of your bracing.  Would like to hear about your experience once your kit arrives.

Not sure about your question regarding spikes.  I have spiked my speaker stands for my current monitors.  Makes a big difference in my room - particulary with bass performance of my speakers (Paradigm 20's v3).

OK, if you go down one level into that link, you can see the internals of the skeleton while it was being build.

Regarding spikes, sorry bad English here, I meant ..

- What experiences has ppl had using 1801's with and whithout spikes ?
- Are they a actual benefit ?

If they are a real improvement to the speaker's sound ...

Wich kind of spikes ppl has used ?

I'm most interested into hear the way ppl has got the spikes attached to the speaker.

P.S.

Photos of the speakers polished

Now, they are more "piano finished" like.

Slava,

The cabinets look very nice. They are rubbed very flat.  This is very difficult.  Those pesky little scratches are problematic - especially when the finish gets very dark.

I did some experiments a while back with spikes.  My comments are here:

Summary,  the 1801 has plenty of cabinet mass & strength.  I don't hear any change with spikes.
