Thanks for this info, good timing - I'm planning on ordering the BDP-93 this morning to use as a digital transport - feeding the audio via digital cable to my standalone DAC. It's good to know the transport mechanism is the same (in terms of low jitter) on all 3 Oppo units, making the BDP-93 an excellent choice for use with a DAC.

I like the e-SATA port feature that allows for the connection of an external drive to play FLAC files through the player. Hopefully those files can also be played through the digital out.

I've had my 93 since this past Nov. I love it. The drive you plug into the eSATA port needs to be formatted as one of the following: FAT / FAT32 / NTFS. I can't remember if I've attempted FLAC playback or not. Let me see if I can find the thread where we were going through a bunch of this.

UPDATE

Here's the link to the earlier thread I was looking for. One of the reply's includes a link to a _very_ long, related thread over at AVS...

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the link.  No one ever accused me of being a techie, but with the help from the thread you posted I'll bet I'll be able to plug in a 2 TB drive and access my music files through the BDP-93.  Again, thanks for the help!!

I'm really tempted to go with the 95, but I just don't know if I'd notice the superior DACs with movies. I know for MC audio it would sound great, but 99% of my music listening is in 2 channel. I'm not sure it's worth it to pay double for just movie audio, when I may or may not hear the difference. I'd be better off buying two 93s lol

Just placed my order for a 93...it'll be here tomorrow.

I can't even tell you how excited I am after reading some of the information on the Vudu website. I knew that Vudu was streaming in 1080p, but I didn't realize they were also streaming in Dolby Digital Plus. I use a multichannel analog pre, which I love. I prefer it to a receiver since I really like the player to do the decoding, and on top of that it's just a fantastic piece of gear (McCormack MAP-1). Anyway, since it's an analog piece, I can't really take advantage of the DD signal on Dish Network. I get great 2-channel sound, and I can even get my DAC involved, but no 5.1. But since the Oppo now supports Vudu, I wondered if MAYBE the Oppo would decode the DD+ and output it in 5.1 via the analog outs. I sent Oppo cust svc and email, and just got it back...and it does exactly that.

This puts my fears to rest about all the changes goign on with Netflix, and the possibility that they are getting away from physical Bluray discs. I enjoy streaming an HD film from time to time, but for the really important ones I like to have BD video quality and the lossless tracks. Even though DD+ isn't lossless, you have to assume that this will soon be an option given how fast the streaming quality is improving.

When I bought my McCormack a couple years ago, I was told analog would be dead soon and it was not worth it...well, analog is plenty viable, and I intend to be streaming DD+, lossless, etc for years to come!

I thought about waiting for the 95. However, being a 2 channel kind of guy, I wasn't confident that I would get enough enjoyment out of spending several hundred dollars more. I have too many other variables to throw money at first.

That's pretty much where I was with it, too. I began using my laptop as my source recently, so it just wasn't worth the extra money for me to go with the 95 when I probably wouldn't use it for redbook music, and I don't have enough of a collection of SACD and DVD-A right now to make it worthwhile. I did some research and I'm pretty convinced I also won't notice the difference in movie soundtracks between the 93 and the better DACs on the 95, so the 93 it is.

I love that this player has bass mgmt...I can set the crossover points as low as 40hz and as high as like 240, which should really help things sound better.
