Extending the port with a cardboard tube works well.  It does not affect the midrange at all, but just lessens the upper mid bass where it tends to get somewhat boomy or "overhang" in my room.  The dealer on this forum from Mexico mentioned using this port extension trick.  I tried stuffing the port, but that definitely messed with the mids in my speakers.

honestly, I have not come up with a plan yet. I was going to build a foam plug to shrink it, but now have second thoughts. When you extended the ports, did you notice a difference in the upper bass and lower mid range? Also did you loose any warmth in the mids? Looking back at the basic design, I wish the box was front ported, and used two 5.5" or 6" drivers with a completely different tweeter (I'm now thinking the tweeter is lacking in transparency). I know that I'm on the new speaker hunt again

I thought the Kismets were getting a bottom platform?

I too had a problem with having my speakers too close to the rear wall.  In my case, It's the Kismet reference speakers.  I solved the problem by putting a 2 inch thick slab of black granite under the speaker with the speakers supported on the best cones Adona makes.  It took out that last bit of boominess and I now have a perfect balance from deep bass to extreme treble.  Previously, I tried blocking the port with foam and a sock, but the method I am using now is the best.

The Lorelei's are the first speaker I have had that I can listen to poorly recorded music on.
Other speakers I have had just make bad music sound too bright, but these seem detailed without
being harsh in my system.

I have often wondered about the DeVore's, glad someone started this thread.

My interest is piqued.  aa
I am absolutely LOVING my MaxHemps, but am finding that they really like (and excel with) REEEEEALLY well recorded material.  Unfortunately, in my experience, they are not forgiving of lower quality recordings (to the extent of being unlistenable).

I am in no hurry for new speakers, but this hobby keeps my eyes constantly peeled .

I noticed that despite the lower sensitivity of the Lorelei, the amplifier recommendations seem to accommodate my Sig 30.2

I'd love to hear a pair of these!

The person I bought the Kismets from had Klaus make the pair without the bottom plinth.  I am glad because the black granite and cones looks much better and enhanced the performance.

It is always tricky to place a ported LS in any environment.  As fantastic as ported designs are,  this is the one negative that stands out.  Also,  they point out room problems more than other designs.   As for the corners,  as ALWYS,  plants.  Real or not,  doesn't matter,  but very effective.   Of course, if you can set the speakers out 3-5 feet,  then all should be well.

So,  for our customers that have room problems we can ship different ports.  Regular length is 90 mm,  set as a happy medium for most instances,  but we can ship 60 mm and 120 mm,  and that my friends,  will change things dramatically.  Keep in mind that it is you that has to play with this and make your own judgement,  but it will work well.

As for platforms,  and especially marble or granite with cones,  dah !!!!!  That would be the pretty much the best solution if you can do it....

Klaus,

I would like to try some different port tuning, how can I get a hold of the different lengths?

Also, are you saying the plants will work as bass traps in the corners, or just diffusing the highs and mids?
