Do clocks make a difference when installed in a transport?

I just bought a Panny 45 and need a transport.  I rarely see clocks as an upgrade to a transport so I wonder if they make a difference in these cases.  Does it make more sense to use an outboard jitter reducer (Monarchy DIP)?

Dave,

I think the clock "lives" between the transport and DAC. I have never seen a clock upgrade mentioned for a transport, it always seems to be mentioned in single box CD players. Also, reclockers are devices that are inserted between the transport and DAC.

My guess is that you would be better of trying something like a Monarchy DIP. At least it is easily sellable on AudiogoN if it doesn't work for you.

Enjoy,

Clock upgrades are definitely possible for transports.  I just upgraded my Sony transport with a Superclock2.  It improved it.  I also have a Superclock2 in my P-3A upsampling DAC.

When a CDP is upgraded with a clock, it is generally the transport or system clock that is being upgraded.

I am in the same boat as dave_c as I am about to get my panasonic XR45 from FEDEX tomorrow and I have wondered the same thing.

So putting a Superclock2 inside my regular old Sony DVD player should improve the sound by reclocking and thereby lowering the jitter?
