Anybody read this? I think its great news. Mr. Holman was the guy behind THX and the Apt-Holman preamp of the early 80's. Here is the link:

Great... To boldly go where Ambisonics has gone before.

Maybe Tomlinson can start out with something easy, like herding the cats necessary to make the optical out of the AirPort Express start to Not Suck.

Or better HDMI out, or multi channel audio out of an ipod, or .... ???  Apple TV2 hdmi digital out rocks...

No issues there.  The airport just sucks with some chips....

Well, I did say baby steps. Not sure about the "airport just sucks with some chips" line. Signal Path Audio had to downgrade one set of digital inputs on their Peachtree Audio Nova, because of customer complaining when using high-jitter sources. The problem varies, to some extent, with the generation of AirPort Express being used.

Sorry Mike,

The sabre chips have some issues because of the jitter from the airport.  If you collect the data, I did as a way to waste some time, most of the document issues came from Sabre ship dacs, and those who could not collect the info due to jitter.  So your right...jp  Airport 1 was bad, two i have not had an issue with, apple tv 2 no problems.

I'm sure once the announcement is official that the audiophile market will be polled for their wishlist

or notified as to how to modify our expectations to sync with the new design philosophy

I'm running a Aex (Toslink) and ATV2 in separate systems, and the HDMI audio on the latter is certainly quite acceptable - but either could certainly be improved

I have one of the current (? less than a year old) Airport Express. My Nova can't fully resolve an optical feed from it, even when using the downgraded input. Even more depressing, the analog input side actually sounds better than the downgraded digital input.
