The Killer App for E-Mail

This should exist, but apparently it doesn't as far as I know.  I'm not a programmer, but I'm going to shout at the rainclouds anyway.

I want an e-mail application that allows you to send a message and file attachment to ONLY the To: recipient and ONLY the text to all the CC or BCC people. In one swell foop.

So that way only the dude who needs the 10MB file gets it and all the other people who just need to know that I sent the dude the 10MB file can be aware of it and not have their inbox plugged up.  Otherwise you gotta send out a second attachment-less e-mail saying "Yeah folks, I like totally sent the hell out of that file to Jimbo."  How primitive and inefficient! *sigh*

I'd like an app that would automatically turn around and thump the person who sent me a 10 Meg file in email  :D

Why not just use dropbox.com for the file transfer?

To put things in perspective I have to send things to people who don't necessarily know what a TIFF file is, are kind of confused about Zip files, and you might as well forget about the wizard-level mystical spell of FTP login information.  (Once even a PRINTER rejected the TIFFs I sent him and thought JPEGs would be better. *pulls out remaining hair*)  So introducing some fancy alternative solution like Dropbox or some such isn't really in the cards.  Even viewing PDFs is a challenge for some folks.

A one-e-mail solution would be slick.  I know making a separate e-mail isn't a big deal, but then again much lesser deals are offered in software all the time.  Every millisecond counts!

(10MB was just a number I made up, they're usually smaller than that.)

I believe the Entourage mail client had an option that could be selected to not send attachments to the CC: and BCC: recipients, but I don't know if the program is supported by the newer Mac operating systems.

Really?  Cause I thought I checked for that in Entourage but I couldn't find anything.  Maybe it's in a newer version.

You will always be faced with attachment file size limits with the clients whether it is 3MB, 10MB or larger, so perhaps a service like mobileme or others that allow you to access the online storage with a URL and if needed one that requires a password, assuming your clients understand how to use web browser.

BTW, I don't see that option for outlook 2007, so doubtful en Entourage mail client has it.  There might be addons/plugins that can do this.

Looking through a current version of Outlook 2011, and I don't see what you are looking for. You could probably get what you want by setting something up in Rules...

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!  srb, you WIN!  Entourage DOES have a checkbox that does exactly that!  How the heck did I miss that before?  Oh, this is super sweet.  Tested and confirmed.  Freaggin' awesome... Thanks so much!  (I noticed that the TO person does get TWO e-mails, one with the attachment and one without.  Weird, but acceptable.  CCs only get the un-attached.)

That is weird.  Sounds like some kind of bugaboo.  Was that something you verified with yourself as the test To: recipient or another To: recipient?  Don't know if that would make a difference anyway?

No, the To address was a different address than the one I was sending it from.  I dunno.  But hey, if that's the only weirdness, I'll take it.

It's a feature not a bug
