I downloaded an old movie soundtrack from Amazon that are labeled MP- 3 files. They play fine via iTunes on the computer. I tried burning them to a CD R so I could play it on my normal CD player, but they come up as "Cannot Play." (I am not into computer hi-fi.) What am I doing wrong?

When you burned the list, did the pop-up window say Audio CD or MP3 cd.  Maybe you burned a MP3 disc that your cd player can't read?

I don't remember seeing a popup window at all. The icons for each individual track showed up on a window after I dragged them from iTunes, and all I did was click where it said "Burn."  They did burn as I can play it back on the computer but not on the CD player. Is there a way to get the "Audio CD" option to come up?

Make sure that your CD player can actually recognize CDRs.  While the great majority do, some other models do not.  Try the burned copy in a different CD player.  Most DVD/CD burners that come with computers are able to do read rip and burn but that might not be the case otherwise.

Moreover, every single Itunes version works a little differently, older versions had a prominent "Burn" icon in the interface, now it is somehow hidden and you have to go to File and chose "Burn playlist to CD" option.

I suspect that your transport does not read the burned CD...remember that when you see the left column option of the Itunes, you are actually choosing to play the burned CD with its proper CD icon rather than the playlist.  I do not think this might be a problem but things can get visually blurry with Itunes.

My CDP can play CD-R because I often use an outboard CD copier. Here's an image of my iTunes window as prepared for burning. There is a window in the upper right that says "BURN."  I suspect that MP3 files are being burned to the CD-R. Can they be converted to regular CD audio files and then burned?

(I tried to upload that image using "Grag" but it's not working.)

I am using iTunes 10, and like Bemopti123 mentioned, the Burn button is now gone from the main windows.  When I choose File > Burn Playlist to Disc, I get the following dialog box:

The default should be "Audio CD".  If you choose "MP3 CD", it will only play on the computer or on certain CD Players that are able to read MP3 files.  The "Audio CD" should play on any CD player that can read a CD-R disc, which is most of them except very old ones.

Thanks. Got it to work. I was trying to do it the old fashioned way by clicking and dragging instead of selecting a playlist and then going to file. The BURN window is still there when you click and drag, but doesn't give you the option of making it an Audio CD. Sheesh.

Thanks to all of you.
