Hi James,

Today, all my CDs (45000+ lossless FLAC files) are ripped and stored on a 6TB NAS connected to my home network. As I already own a BDA-1, I'm very interested by the new BDP-1 but I have read that it cannot access files stored on a NAS through a home ethernet network. Do you plan to add this important functionality to the BDP-1? If yes, when?

Best regards

Hi satbox,

We may look at NAS capability going forward but not in the immediate future.

My understanding is that "may" + "not in the immediate future" = no.   :-)

On the other side:
- Is it possible to copy files from my computer to an USB HDD connected to the BDP-1 through my ethernet home network?
- When you add new files to the USB HDD connected to the BDP-1, I presume that you must run a kind of re-indexing of the music library? Is a full indexing required or do you have have to run a "refresh"? Do you have some statistics on time required to index the library?

Hi satbox,

You can transfer files to the ATTACHED harddrives on the BDP-1 over the network as long as the attached destination drive is formatted FAT32.

It does not take long to update the drive you have transfered the files to.

I would not say NO outright to the NAS idea - it's just we are looking at a dedicated USB drive unit that would match with the BDP-1 and take mutiple 2.5 USB drives first.

OK, thank you for your answer!

I suppose that if the USB HDD connected to the BDP-1 is formatted ext3 (best than FAT32 because ext3 supports volume of 32TB), you can also copy files on the drive through the network, isn't it?

Concerning 3.5 USB HDD, any known compatibility issues?

Hi satbox,

I have formatted my 1.5 TB drive Fat 32 with no issues.  I used Windows 7 and a third party program from HP.

No 3.5 drive issues I am aware of - in fact our demo room is using a 500GB 3.5 drive at the moment on our demo BDP-1.

OK but I prefer to use ext3. Please, can you confirm that you can copy files from you PC to an USB HDD ext3 attached to the BDP-1 through the home network?

No at this point it has to be FAT32.
