DIY Audio Seminar @ THE Show Newport
« on: 7 Apr 2011, 06:59 pm »
Hey Folks,

I've been charged with organizing and hosting a seminar on DIY Audio for THE Show Newport, June 3-5.  I'd like some input on how to best use 45 to 50 minutes to introduce, inform and promote DIY Audio to those who attend.  I'm hosting not so much because I'm an expert, but because I dig it and want to share my enthusiasm for DIY Audio.

Here's what I have in mind for the seminar:

Three presenters: Arian Jansen (local audiophile and Audio/Power Supply Engineer), Fritz Heiler (FritzSpeakers), and Russ Stratton (dangerous solder slinger).

I will moderate, give a brief introduction to the topic and give each presenter a few minutes to introduce themselves and share some unique DIY insight.

From there I will ask the presenters a series of questions about DIY audio. Example: What skill levels are necessary? (soldering, understanding circuits, etc.)  What are the risks involved (voiding warranties, working with high voltages, blowing stuff up, etc.).  What resources are available? (kit vendors, parts vendors, internet bulletin boards, google searches, books, etc.)

Take 5 to 10 minutes to showcase a few project examples.

Save the last 10 to 15 minutes for questions/comments from the audience.

Hang around afterwards and shoot the bull with fellow solder-slingers.

Since the folks here at the The Lab circle have been so helpful and encouraging to me over the past six years, I want to get some input from you.  And it goes without saying, if you attend THE Show Newport, come to the seminar and bring your pom poms to cheer us on.

Russ
