Had a wonderful evening, the performance of Paolo Gavanelli as Rigoletto and Laura Claycomb as Gilda were amazing in this production, not to be missed at the Winspear, Also saw Romeo an Juliet there a month ago, that was good too but this one blows me away.

I'd love to see it, but it's a bit too far for me. What's the best Rigoletto on DVD in your opinion?

Sorry, I have no first hand experience with any of the available DVDs, may be some others will chime in.

This 1983 movie on DVD is probably the best there is for viewing at home.  Unlike a filmed live stage production, multiple takes and post production edits really make a flawless presentation.  I personally like this Met Production, but that is only because Cotrubas is my Diva and I mostly prefer Domingo over Pavarotti.  While I was looking up links for the above DVDs I found this Blu-ray production that has perked my interest.  I ordered one.

BTW, Rigoletto is one of my favorite operas.  I think it has everything that a great Opera should.  I especially like the father-daughter duets.  I find the bass role, Sparafucile, fascinating as well.  I read the review on the Dallas production.  Sounds like a really great production.  I hope to hear Laura Claycomb in person in the future.
