Need SSD install in MacMini in NYC
« on: 9 Mar 2011, 06:24 pm »
Would appreciate recommendation where I could get Solid State Drive added / replaced in my Mac Mini (latest model) in NYC ...

It does not have to be professional - DIY guy is fine too ... in other words someone who has already done a few of these and knows what to do and not to do ...

Thanks
Sunil.

There is a guy Philip Arcario at 123Macmini.com who is the resident SSD guru.

He is in Howell NJ and does this routinely. He will caution you though that the current OS does not support TRIM.

There are some good videos on youtube that walk you through the process if you feel comfortable doing it yourself.  It really isn't difficult, just take your time.  I installed a OCZ drive in my 2010 Mac Mini and the hardest part for me was removing and reinstalling the drive cables from the logic board.  Everything else was very straight forward.

This was the youtube video I followed.

Here is another helpful guide

Just be really, really careful disconnecting those drive cables.  I used that same video, but I didn't find it very clear when and how to disconnect the drive cables.  I ended up jarring the logic board too much, and the entire optical disc drive cable connector ripped off the logic board.  Now I can't use the optical drive at all (luckily that was the only side-effect - could have been much, much worse...).

Thanks, I am going to try this guy ... the risk / reward of diy is not favorable for me ;)
Unless there is someone in NYC ...

Thanks

Back on top ...
Philip will not do the SSD install ...

Any more recommendations for folks who would install SSD in my Mac Mini 2010 in NYC?

Thanks
Sunil.

Why not do it yourself?  I did just by following along using this video.

Take your time and be gentle...it's really easy it's silly.
