Carver ZR vs. ????????
« on: 12 Apr 2004, 11:32 pm »
Hi folks....first post!!

I've been lurking around here for awhile and have found myself quite interested in the CarverPro ZR series that seems to have stimulated the always present "get more than you paid for" trait. I was wondering if anyone has any experience or comparisons with any of the other pro-type amps out there...in particular Crest, Crown or QSC? I know Crest has a couple of class D amp lines and would be interested if any of these stack up to the Carver as far as audiophile-like sound quality.

Thanks for any input.

I have a Carver ZR-1600 modified by the good folks at Eighth nerve. I'd say this amplifier competes favorably with many more expensive "audiophile" amps on the market. I don't know of anything near its power rating for around $1100 (U.S.) that competes with it sonically. I haven't auditioned many "pro" amps lately, but the concensus seems to be the Carver is something special, some even call it a fluke. The exception would be when using the pro amp to drive subwoofers, there several AC members recommend amps from Crown or QSC. My observations are of the Carver ZR-1600 modified by Eighth nerve running full-range.
