Ampslab LM60 SS amp.
« on: 27 Feb 2011, 08:58 pm »
3/14/11 edit: since I found the info I needed decided to change the thread to more of a build thread. Will finish as time allows.

I dove in head first into an amp project that is over my head, to learn and mostly enjoy an amp I couldn't otherwise afford. Ampslab LM60. Have succeeded in learning to solder small components on the pcb, this came out really well. Stripped a Hafler DH220 chassis and am using it, had heatsinks modded to gain more room, this too came out well.
Now it all needs wired up  - ps, bridge rectifier, and amp boards connected, as well as panel components. So, now my lack of knowledge has the project at idle. Haven't got a lot of time to study everything I need to understand so am hoping someone can hand hold me through he process.
I get it, I haven't paid my dues and learned more, so how about we limit the admonishments to um say 3 posts, and if anyone can direct me to easy to understand resources, or actually help me with a diagram I'd appreciate it immensely.
I built a Pass B1 to go with the amp, so easy even I could do it. It's playing and sounding great.
Will post pics of amp project as it sits. Glad to take more if it helps.
The rectifier, fuse holder, and switch are on order and will arrive in a few days.
I do know a couple things fwiw: how to hook up the inputs to the amp boards, and that OP on the amp boards is for speaker +.

Kit, transformer, rectifier:

I would:
1) Twist the reds together and then the blacks together.  Those go to the mains connection with a fuse on the hot
2) Are you using two rectifers?  If so attach the one teal and one blue to each rectifer like this:

Other wise twist the like colors together.

I cut the secondaries and use the cut peice to go to the PS.  It does not matter which secondary you put where on the rectifier just use the picture and your DDM to connect the correct polarity to the PS.

The the V+ to V+ and V- to V-.  The the OP to Speaker + and a gnd to speaker -

Also remember that coming out of the bridges you should attach the secondaries teal, blue, teal, blue to the PS or blue, teal, blue teal.
IF
Teal = +
Blue = -

Bridge 1 connect teal to V+ and blue to gnd
Bridge 2 connect blue to - and teal to gnd

get it?

sts9fan, in your photo:
a] I don't see the Green Safety Ground connection to the chassis at the AC power input (is it hidden)?
b] The transformer Red's and Black" could be twisted together.
c] The XLR jack's Green's should go directly to chassis, they should not go to the circuit boards.
d] Each speaker's leads could be twisted together.

Muchas gracias. Am going over the info.

I only ordered one rectifier.

am working on a diagram here, for myself to refer to.

Speedskater:
a) no but if you look you see a red earth that connects to the chassis behind the transformer
b) could
c) you may be correct.  I was following the kit manufaturer's instructions. I will look at that.
d) could

Just got email from Ampslab with info on wiring power supply, and grounding the amp. Will get to it sometime this week, as parts come in and I get time. Should work things out soon. Thanks for the help, probably have a few more questions and pics for checking out my work.
