I think you are correct, and if I believed otherwise I wouldn't have rolled the dice on this wild card. I'm very glad I did though--I've heard a lot of amplification in my own rig recently and these do it for me. A lot of people on the SET Asylum cautioned that these things couldn't be any good and that a proper 845 amp couldn't be implemented for the $2400 price range--I don't know how valid this is or isn't as its my only 845 experience, but I am curious how a 'higher end' 845 amp would sound.
Chris,Okay, I see. The picture in the first link looked like a massive heat sink and the tubes weren't obvious. That's a sexy look'n beast. What speakers have you graced with it?
Welp, right now I'm looking to turn lemons into lemonade... One of my 845Bs seems to have gone... After breaking out the multimeter to diagnose a channel imbalance, one power tube is holding a bias of half of what it should be....Really crappy as the tubes are only a few months old. The rig was sounding great too, so its unfortunate. On the positive end, I'm picking up a pair of Pavane 845-Ts to replace the 845Bs. There is very little feedback out there on this tube, but from what is out there, it sounds like it may be amazing. It is about twice the cost of a new pair of 845Bs, so I'm REALLY hoping these last me more then a few months like my last pair. I'm NOT having much luck with tubes these days.
They make my monos look TINY!
Looks like they are now available domestically. http://grantfidelity.com/site/Shuguang_classis_S200MK_S845MK_SET_amplifier_set
