I looked a those but the cost of shipping and other expenses from Newfoundland to Seattle would be a bit daunting.

Hey Jonbee - replacing the VMPS RM30s with a pair of Salk HT2TLs?
Have you demoed the Salks yet?
Thanks,

Metal flake red wouldn't pass muster with the wife, I'm afraid.

I haven't heard the Salks, but of course I'm aware of the reputation they possess. I own a pair of speakers w/ d'Appolito Excel woofers and Millenium tweeters, and also Volent VL-2s which use the LCY ribbon. I like both independently, and wanted to try the combination from the hands of someone like Dennis Murphy who can get them to sing properly together.
I loved owning the RM-30s for 4 years, but I find the Excel woofers have more lower midrange and midbass body, with still more than adequate resolution in the mids. The upper range of the RM30s is wonderful; my Volents are pretty close in that regard, but the single woofer and tweeter doesn't offer the image size of the d'Appolito array, not to mention that of the larger RM30. I also think the HT2-TL's bass should allow me to jettison my subs, making the wife happy.
I'm in no hurry, but when the right pair materializes I look forward to trying them out.

Thanks John,
Good luck on the hunt - the Salk HT2TL is very intriguing.  Would love to hear a pair.

johnbee - Out of curiosty, have you auditioned a pair of RM30M? I've owned a pair of RM30M (non-CDWG), and also auditioned a pair of 626R (FST). I would say both speakers in my experience had more midbass than the RM30C. Best of luck.

I have not heard the Ms. I found not just the midbass, but lower midrange is recessed as well. VMPS's DEQX settings for the RM30 have a built in boost around 2-300 hz. to adjust for this.
Nonetheless, the RM30s are great speakers. No speaker is perfect. I've decided that I needed to go to a much smaller speaker mostly because age and arthritis limit how much fun it is to move monkey coffins around.

jonbee,

What is your listening room like?  Do you have measuring equipment to aid in your in-home auditioning?

I think you'll like the HT2-TL's, but like you said, no speaker is perfect.  I recommend trying a pair with RAAL tweeters, though; oh so sweet!

Happy hunting.

Hi Jonbee,

I had the RM 30m's. They were clear and had very good resolution in the upper midrange and treble, but their lower midrange and upper bass were on the thin side, needed more body.
I have the Salks HT-3s which are much fuller in that region and have the same resolution in the upper mids and treble.I don't know if the HT-2TL are the same.

Jon,

If you ever get over to Spokane.  I have a pair of HT2-TLs hooked up to a Unison Unico and I have a Wyred 4 Sound STI-500 on order and it should be here in a 4 weeks or so.  I'd be happy to give you a listen.  Dave
