Biamping / Triamping
« on: 12 Feb 2011, 03:37 am »
I have a Bryston B100sst which i am enjoying.  I am in the midst of auditioning speakers to upgrade from a pare of Totem Model 1 signature stand mount speakers.

Depending on the size/efficiency of the speaker I enjoy the most, I am assuming that i might need to add some more power and run the B100SST in a biamped configuration.

It is my understanding that I could add an amp, say the 2BSST, and use that to power the right and left low frequency while the B100SST controls the right and left high frequency.

Could I run both of the amps in mono and drive the left and right channels respectively with each amp?

I also understand that the BSST2 and the Bsst are large improvements over earlier versions.  Would the improvements be noticeable if i am using the newer amp to run the low frequency only.  i.e. using an older 4B to run the lows.

thirdly is it possible to run 2 additional amps in mono one for the left low frequency and one for the right low frequency and use the B100SST to run the right and left high frequency.  In this case it would be a pair of older 3B or 4B.  I am ultimately trying to decide if that would be better than one newer 4BSST or 4Bsst2.

thanks

I would say, why you don,t just wait for 2 months and get in Montreal and be your own boss.

Doesn't look like bryston will be there.  :(
Really wondering if all the improvements in the new series affects the low frequency as well as high or mainly high. If it is mostly high then it wou seem upgrading with older versions for low frequency reproduction only might be a more affordable upgrade path.

Thought?

FYI I found that mixing an old 4B NRB and newer SST amps is not the best because of a slight coloration of the older electronics. With good drivers this becomes obvious and I quickly invested in a pair of 7B SST then. 8)
