Here is a breakdown of the specs. The N-50 appears more cost effective than a Squeezebox Touch and moderately priced DAC like the Schiit Bifrost or Peachtree DAC*it. I guess we will have to see how it sounds. It uses an AKM DAC.
FYI, the Touch uses an AKM DAC that is rated to 24/192. The current software used with the Touch limits it to 24/96. If someone is willing to take a lot of time writing code, they might be able to get a Touch to play 24/192 files.
What matters more to the sound of the unit is what is used for the analog output section and power supply.
With all that said, the new Pioneer products do look interesting. I would love to be able to take a look under the hood on one of those. If anyone picks up one of them, send it on over to me. I would be delighted to compare it to a modded Touch.
