A pioneer in getting music to the people has passed away at age 76. I grew up watching Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.

That's a drag.  I used to stay up late as a kid to watch his show and remember Foghat doing Honey, Hush like it was yesterday.

i remember seeing the circle jerks on the rock hour, i couldn't believe my eyes. this was in the days when NO ONE would touch that kind of music - college radio included (around the time "thriller" was a big album - i remember because keith morris was wearing a big ugly white trash collector glove on one hand).

1973 ( I was 13 at the time) watched Golden Earring do Radar Love and the drummer jumps over the drum kit at the end.
I remember thinking :what the hell did I just see !!!"
God Bless...

Nice obit in the L.A. Times today reminding me that the TV show ran 9 years and was the bridge between the Ed Sullivan years and the MTV Generation.Whether that is totally spot on,I'm not sure, but the fact that he lost ownersip of those tapes and rights in a bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar makes for interesting lore.
So the guy ran the table from Bobby Darin to the Monkee's and the Archie's and on into Disco,New Wave and Punk, and washed ashore in his final days in Florida at the early bird special.A great American success story if i ever heard one.Just the hair styles the guy lived through is fascinating enough to make the mind spin.
