Modded Zhaolu 2.0 DAC *SOLD*
« on: 27 Dec 2010, 04:11 pm »
For Sale:

Zhalou 2.0 Dac with the AD1852 Dac chip.  Asking $150
The following upgrades were made by me to this DAC:

* Upgraded the center op-amp to a LM4562.
* Upgraded the 2 flanking op-amps to the OPA2107.  This has added to the resolution & extension.
* Bypassing the 4 electrolytic coupling caps which substantially improved the sound.

These mods were done on the advice of OCCAM(Paul) and the result were substantial improvements to this DAC.

The Zhaolu DAC will give you the ability to choose between 2 digital signals fed into it, a coaxial digital signal as well as a separtate toslink signal. In addition, it also has a headphone jack on the front panel.

I will accept Money Orders, Check or PayPal(I will eat the PP fees)

I will pay for the shipping which will be insured.

Thanks for looking,

Randy

According to the photo of the DAC rear, this is a 220V version? Not standard 120V as in USA. Please inform.

Well, it certainly does say 220.  However, I have used this DAC for quite a while in my system which is located in Hinckley, Ohio in the good old USA. :D

I am quite certain it is 120.  However, I will try and locate the instructions that originally came with this unit and report back.  I will also confirm with an electronics guy here in the area.

I will also PM OCCAM(Paul) as he used a Zhalou in his system for many years as well.

Thanks,

Randy

OK...I did some checking on this DAC and apparently one chooses whether or not it is 110v or 220v inside the unit(under the cover that shows WARNING in the above picture of the inside of the DAC).  The 2.5 model which replaced the 2.0 DAC is the same.  You choose the voltage inside the DAC.  As I stated, I have used this DAC in my system with absolutely no issues for a while now.

If you have a problem(you won't :thumb:), I will gladly refund your money.

Thanks,

Randy

Here are some pictures of two pages out of the manual that came with the unit.  As you see, the manual is a big help!!

BTW, As you can see from the above pics of the back of the DAC, you can run SE or Balanced.

Thanks,

Randy

Below is my email to the vendor(Obade) where I purchased the DAC from.  It contains my question and also his reply.

I purchased a Zhaolu 2.0 DAC from you some years ago.  It has served me well.  I am now in the process of selling it and the buyer is questioning why it shows AC-220v 50Hz on the back near the plug.  I assume that my DAC is 120v as I have been running it in my system for years with no problems.  I am located in Ohio, USA.  I would appreciate some clarification on this question.   Thanks,

Hi Randy
Thanks for the email. It's 120v. The chassis must be marked incorrectly.
Please let me know of you have more questions.

Warm regards

Underneath the formed metal channel which has the "warning label" is a small power conditioning circuit and jumpers, which configure the transformers primaries to run on either 230/115 vac. Not hard to change from 115vac to 230vac or versa visa.

This is a very good dac. At the price I don't know anything close.

What are the 3 sets of RCA plugs on the rear panel for?

I know 1 set is for the audio out - but what are the other 2 for?
