I'm about to start building a small equipment rack for my 2 channel system. I have planned to build two shelves, each would be a sandbox type setup. I will build two 3" deep boxes, add sand and place a piece of granite on top of the sand with weather stripping keeping the sand from coming out over the edge.
I was about to start building this and then realized that I have not heard of many/any talking about this type of stand for a long while. Why is this? Is the reward not worth the effort? Is the vibration reducing abilities of this style build not great enough to warrant the trouble to build it?

BTW, the equipment that will be placed on this rack is as follows:
Alix single board Linux music server>Tranquility DAC> Dodd Buffer> Class D Amp
The floor is a suspended wood floor, the speakers are GR Research V-1s.
