Adding to the pool of talented female artists
« on: 7 Dec 2010, 11:32 pm »
Here is Lylit… another new and very talented soul/RnB artist. Yet there is definitely a lot more to this girl than meets the eye. She has a lot of soul that I would have never expected, and the beats are calm, reminding me somewhat of Nujabes. A lot of people tell me they don’t like white soul artists but I think she makes the cut.

Here is her EPK on vimeo: http://www.vimeo.com/14281151
If you really want, her new EP, Unexpected, is out on iTunes: http://bit.ly/cThULI

I think with so many bad artists around nowadays, it's nice to see a change of pace. That's just my opinion though. Let me know what you think.

Works for me.

Anyone who says they don't like white soul artists should be reminded of Donald Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper who were the backbone of a lot of soul music

You may want to give Xandra Corpora and Con Brio a listen.

Here is a video of the group performing one of their numbers. There are a couple of samples below the video that, in my opinion, are a better representation of their work.

Not 'super soulsy' and her vocal style crosses over related genres.

This is great! Her voice kind of reminds me of Sara Bareilles but more easy and soulful with a hint of RnB. Thanks for the suggestion.
I hope you liked Lylit!

On second thought, she doesn't really sound anything like Sara Bareilles, but she's talented nonetheless.

Almost like the indie, darker version of Lylit... kind of opposite when you think about it...

I did enjoy Lylit. Very cool that she is from Austria.

Always love the interviews when the performers are just being discovered. Really refreshing.

Here is a link to Con Brio's site where you can download their album "From the Hip" or pick up a download and a cd for two dollars more.

Also, all samples from their album.

Eva Klampfer alias "Lylit".

Thanks for the heads-up musiclovesryan.

Here's a good video, although the acoustics suck.  :duh:

I gott say THANK YOU davidrs for the Con Brio recommendation. CD showed up and have been spinning it multiple times tonight. IMO, this might be the best release of 2010! At least for me.  :thumb:

Wow, that Con Brio sounds great.  I'm assuming the recording quality is good?

Recording quality is superb!  :thumb:
If I had produced I would have brought the drums/cymbals out front just a touch more, but that's just me.
An excellent recording. I'd love to see them live, in hopes of them extending some of their songs and stretching out.
Nearly every cut leaves me wanting more.

These two recommendations are of artists that are similar, yet very different from Lylit and Con Brio.

Hilary Maroon lead for the group Maroon (Jazz) - album is "Who the Sky Betrays" from 2003. More on the avante-garde side of modern jazz, so some (minor) atonality, darker and a bit intellectual. Sipped slowly, you just might warm up to their work.

On the lighter side of the scale and better known, Kate Earl's "Fate is the Hunter" from 2005. You are likely to enjoy the 'Cry Sometimes' and 'Sweet Sixteen' tracks on this album.
