The original housing is for a bare wire. You were supposed to strip down a certain length and insert the bare center conductor into the hole. Then the outer insulation would be removed from the shield. The two screws would then be removed from the little metal bridge. You would then fasten the bridge over the bare shield and screw it back in place. This was designed so you didn't have to use an "F" connector.
A lot of the older tuners use the same type of connection with a screw for the center conductor.
