My set up is getting pretty complicated. I use a pair of Moth Cicadas speakers hooked up to Zu Wax cables. I also use the Daikom stabilizer which deepens the bass and helps with digital glare. Crossover-less speakers are the way to go I think. The mids are crystal clear with as much detail as my reference system. What you can't get is the extension on either end, but what is there is believable and even exciting. I upgraded the powercord to a top of the line Dedicated Audio plugged into a PS Audio ulimate outlet--again improvement all around, more bass, more air, more believable note decay. Interconnects are Fidelity Dragons, all silver; they retail for more than six times what I paid for the Sharp! These squeeze out the last little bit of information and push the highs to what must be close to the Cicada's absolute maximum. My audiophile friends are pretty astounded, and I must say this little system has no right to sound so good. The Moth Cicadas are rated at a 14-ohm load and 94db sensitive. They work perfectly because I never have to push the Sharp, turn it on, give it 2, maybe 3 watts, and I'm rockin'!
I paid 400 for the speakers, 120 for the Sharp, 150 for the Zu cables, 25 smackers for the stabilizer, 190 for the powercord, 200 for the Dragons, and the ultimate outlet was free. Total 1085 bucks. Two of my buddies spent a modest 5000 for their big rigs, they sound great, but my second system is 98% as good as theirs--my best audio slam dunk by far.
