Software seems to increase its inefficiency in proportion to increases in computer speed. I was working with multi-layered Photoshop files with file sizes in the hundreds of MB at my first graphics job and we were using Mac Quadras and Power Mac 9500s and the like. There's a ton more power now, but it doesn't always translate to a feeling of speed.
