Hi guys, I am new to classical and really loved this cut by Ramin Dwajadi as well as the rest of the game of thrones soundtrack:

I guess you would call this "dark" classical? Not really sure how to describe it but I really love this sound. Any suggestions for similar music?

Large, dark symphonic - Tchaikovsky 4th, 5th, and 6th.  Beethoven 5th and 7th.  Shostakovich 5th, 8th, and 9th.  Mahler 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th.  Bruckner 9th.  Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.  Bartok's 2nd Piano Concerto and the Miraculous Mandarin.  Anything by Schnittke.

Sounds like you're up late, T.  Listened to Mahler no.1 (Horenstein/LSO on Unicorn) and some Mingus myself.

Yep, up late.  Watching the DVD of "How to Listen to and Understand Great Music".  Kinda miss scotch on nights like this, but gave up the sauce a while back....

I think your closest matches to that music will be in film scores.  Try anything by Hans Zimmer; "Pirates of the Caribbean" comes to mind.  Howard Shore's "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack is similar.  Also get "Conan the Barbarian" by Basil Poledouris.  These will be good starts.

By all means, listen to the classical mentioned above, but I think these scores will be more what you're looking for.
