Hi out there:

Just how good are VMPS speakers?
I have Totem Model 1's (ca. 1992) and was considering getting Ref.3A De Capo-i's to replace them (with my C-J MV55 tube amp; 45 w x 2). But now, afeter reading various Internet postings, it seems that the 626 may very well be much, much better than both above.

My second question is:  Should I go all the way with the (most expensive)SE Model in the 626 line?

I own 2 pairs of 626r, one pair with stock xovers and spiral tweeters, and
another pair with AuriCaps and the FST.  The difference between them
is STUNNING.  The AuriCap/FST are much more transparent and detailed
in the mids, and the highs are 'airier'.  Better soundstage also.

Having not heard either the Totems or the De Capos, I cannot comment.
However, I would agree with your suspicions as to which speaker is
superior.

hope this helps...cheers...

Hello Andre,

The DeCapo i and 626Ribbon are extremely different speakers; a very apples to oranges comparison.  This is a case where you should take the opportunity to listen to either speaker before deciding on which matches your preferences.  The DeCapo stresses dynamics and coherency, and might be a superior nearfield solution.  The 626R (standard or Signature) is extremely transparent, very detailed, musical, and has more impactful and deeper quality of bass IMO.  Whether you prefer so much detail in your playback is for you to decide - as this can really irritate with poorly recorded albums.  What sort of music do you enjoy?  How loudly do you like to listen?  What size is the room?

The standard 626R is a must-audition $3k and under option (retails for $1690), where the 626R Signature (TRT caps, FS Tweeter, Soundcoat) is a world class monitor regardless of pricepoint.  Yes, it really is that much better.

We do offer a full refund policy on all VMPS speakers with a generous trial period, if you would like the opportunity to listen with little risk.  Please feel free to contact for more information.

Kind Regards,

Rupesh

Hi Andre,

It seems you are looking at the dynamic 626 and not the 626R (ribbon).

In the price range of the De Capo i ($2500), the well loaded 626R would fall.

While the Dynamic 626 is a great speaker in it's own right, the 626R, with neopanel and FST tweeter option, is very competitive with most "any" stand mounted speaker in existance, if you are a serious listener, with adequate equipment and listening room.
