Between ESPNU and ESPN, there will be 19 games being televised. I'm really really glad that ESPNU finally went HD. With all the college sports that they televise live, having to watch a standard definition picture was a real PIA.

I will be catching my fair share of ballgames, I love college basketball, especially my Georgetown Hoyas(who aren't included in this marathon).

Despite the ugly 2nd half and waaaay too many foul calls it is a good start for the Cards beating number 17/18 Butler!

GO CARDS!!

Dang...Duke looked downright scary.  I don't think Miami of Ohio was even such a bad team...Duke just made 'em look like a JV Girls team out there today.  Wow, so talented in so many ways on that team - and soooo much depth, too.  Wow :o

My 'Nova Wildcats looked good, too - downing Marist by 37 points (more than Duke's win...but, not as convincingly). Malik Wayns looks to be following in the footsteps of Kyle Lowery and Jameer Nelson...toughing little Philly guards balling in the NBA today.

I thought Tennessee looked a little green.  That heralded frosh Tobias Harris from Long Island looks like the real deal, tho.

I haven't seen all the 'combatants' this year....but, that Duke team is bloody loaded for a second straight title methinks :eyebrows:

Methinks you're a little early with title projections.   :D

I agree, wait 4-6 weeks and these teams will have a completely different look,,, a coached refined look. Today they are diamonds in the ruff, loaded with 1st year freshmen and team transfers. It's really hard to gauge anything in the 1st week but it's really sweet to see these 1st year players and watch the occasional upset from a college you've never even heard of before. Kennesaw State? What reservation did that college from off from?

Anyone watching #12 Gonzaga losing to San Diego State?  :icon_surprised:

I didn't think there were any dominating teams...and Duke pipped in and grabbed the title last year.

This year - different story - they seem to be THE dominant team.

Nothing that guarantees a title as one freak loss in the NCAA's eliminates even the best....but there is at least 3 future pro's on this team and that kind of talent is rare to find on any one team.

By the end of the season, Coach K could have this group playing well enough to knock out a couple NBA teams. They've got height, speed, ball-handling, 3's, redundant depth, and as any Duke team - good D.

They're freaky good this year and coached by perhaps the best in the game today. We'll see of course....

Duke was far from dominate last year when they won one of the best final 4 title games that I've ever seen over a highly entertaining Butler, 61-59. Butler wasn't even expected to make it to the Final Four, let alone get so close to actually winning the Championship,, now that woulda/coulda been a true Cinderella story. Duke is back again this year looking stronger than the last, especially with the addition of true freshman Kyrie Irving who really looked as good as Coach Krzyzewsk feels he is. For the 1st time ever, Krzyzewsk has given this starting freshman point guard the #1 jersey. He'll be on the front page all season for freshman of the year honors in a year that's loaded with potential freshman stars. A lot of pressure comes with being percieved as the dominate team with the #1 freshman point guard, I'm sure Duke will be televised a lot this season.  8)

Yeah, Duke simply found a way to win last year.  It was rarely pretty to see them go, but they kept at it in various ways.

Against no team that was overstocked with talent last year (perhaps Kentucky was...but we cannot expect Freshman to gel in one year despite their outsized talents), they just kept finding ways to win as the season progressed.

Their NCAA game with Baylor was indicative of that last year...Baylor was a better, more athletic, well coached team...but Duke found a way to beat them.  Baylor, just before that Duke loss, made St. Mary's look like Girls High School Varsity team.  But, Duke just found ugly ways to win it last year.

This year - different - they already play like a late season contender.  Only their hubris or excessive pride could stop them from winning it all now as they have almost the best of everything in player talents and coaching already there.
