I picked up the shiny JVC a couple of weeks ago. Just as expected, the hollow plinth is pretty resonant. Following recommendations, I have ordered some plast-i-clay. Next step is the mat.
Seems like folks like the Herbies mat for this table. What thickness would you recommend as closest to stock (or perhaps just best sounding)?
I may pick up the Tenderfeet as well.
Anything else I should consider?

Fill the gizzards with modeling...it sure does help. Getting the right feet for this JVC is critical....hard cones directly against the bottom are not recommended. It traps the significant resonance inside the deck and creates a worse howling problem.
I have had luck with brass feet (inexpensive from Parts Express) pointed straight down into a 3.5" maple cutting block (bought for ~$100 from Dawn's Depot on ebay and Audiogon).
However, on top of the flat side of the brass feet I put Herbies Tenderfeet footers.....without this critical step, the problem was worse. The silicone compound absorbed and released the trapped resonances and the table sounds great.
The Tenderfeet themselves are too short unless you remove the stock JVC feet. But, I thought it sounded a bit more stout with the brass toes and Tenderfeet combo.
Cheaper still and about as good is Vibrapods (4) pointed up from the maple block. On top of them some Vibrapod cones. I think they're a total of about $64 for the 8 pieces...+ the maple block for $100.00. For $164.00, you'll be providing very good support for this potentially great sounding deck (when you dial out the gremlins inside)
As for Herbie's mat...I forgot the thickness I bought
