Griffin Power Wave arrived.

I've been playing with this amplifier for roughly two days now, and have been enjoying each and every moment of it.  I wrote a larger review here:

http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16879

Let me simply say that while this amp does not make me want to rush out and replace my existing equipment, it shows incredible promise of tripath amplifiers.  Having owned a Sony AVD S50 ES, the digital sound is not completely new to me.  The performance of the Sony was nothing short of stellar. The PowerWave seems to have an even smoother sound.  You can listen to this thing for hours and hours.

Despite its small size, this baby is powerfull, even capable of driving my pair of Totem Acoustic "Sttafs", which are VERY power hungry speakers.  Although there should be no mistakes made, it is still only 15 wpc, and it does have limitations.

So far, Ive only been able to successfully use this amp via: USB to the computer.  The only complaint I have against this product, is the constant hiss when the power is plugged in.  Its almost as if there is a leak or some interferance seeping in.  It can become incredibly distracting when no tunes are playing.

If you have the spare coin and space for a new amplifier, do yourself a favor and give this unassuming Power Wave a try.  Combine it with the Klipsch DD5.1 pre-amp/processor, and for $200, you have a combination of unimaginable value.

Nice speaker stands!  What are they, coffee cups or aerosol can lids?

Yeah, I notice a little noise when no music is playing- Dmason suggested some ferrite clamps for the power cord as a place to start.  I'll try my local RatShack tomorrow.

I have a towel folded up and laying on my Griffin to block that annoying blue light.  Good thing it runs cool.

I have you know those are HIFI coffee mugs made from ceramic for the ultimate in wave and reverb reduction.  For extra padding, I have some 100 percent leather placemats for stability!  It just doesn't get much better than that. :)

WerTicus,

I'm no expert, but from what I've read recently, all digital amp specs are mediocre when compared to a traditional amp. But, we don't listen to specs, right? It would seem that based on reports I've read, the specs don't seem to relate to the listening experience.

BTW, I just bought a Panasonic SA-XR45 digital HT receiver based on my on-line reading. It is very good considering the price. If I remember correctly, the specs were not good........

Enjoy,
