Chris Adams in the Hifimediy thread uses the Meanwell and he seems to be pretty happy. I don't think having a fan is necessarily a bad thing if the unit hardly ever uses it. If I go monoblocks as I now intend, I'll have two of the SMPS's. And at normal listening levels I doubt the units will get very hot at all. The amps themselves sure won't. They'll probably just coast but with plenty of reserves for transients.

I noticed that the recommended Mean Well S-350 series switching power supplies are also fan cooled.

Steve

In the case of the Sure, the fan was powered on the amp board right next to the TK2050 chip. Bad idea...

Choice of SMPS is recommended on the site itself, it says SMPS sound better with these particular amps. Just going with the recommended unit.

Your looking at the T3 V1 right? I thought I had seen before that he recommended toroid for the amp, but from the current website their doesn't seem to be a recommendation either way.

Quote
The PSU board comes in two variations: stereo (for two t3s) and mono (for one T3).
The stereo version is recommended if using a toroid transformer to power the amps. The mono board is recommended if using smps to power the amps. Running two amp off one smps can cause some noise issues, thats why its recommended to use one smps and one psu board for each T3 amp, making it a fully mono setup to avoid any potentional noise.
The price for the stereo and mono psu boards are the same.

"This is the Meanwell SMPS said by many users to sound better than traditional transformer when powering class-T and class-D amps."

right there next to the picture of the Meanwell.

I use the Meanwell 27vdc 350w SMPS with my TK2050 V2 on MMGs and I run it hard. The Meanwell is set at 30vdc. I have never heard the fan run and the heatsink on the amp gets warm but I can always rest my hand or fingers on it. By the way, this amp kicks butt! :thumb:

 Thanks for chiming in Chris!

But hey, look at what I just found? A 300 watt Class D, with chassis and apparently SMPS built in, $242 with free shipping and escrow protection:

They've of course got everything else too. I've emailed the seller on that link at the bottom with some questions, that looks like a very easy option.

Ok, so apparently the charmingly named "Genius 300" (the creator of these amps, a Chinese gentleman, answered my emails, very nice guy, posts on Diyaudio.) is "only" 150*2 at 4 ohms, or 300 * 1 mono.

However, he has another amp coming soon (the "Genius 500") which we can assume will produce much more power into 2 channels, and of course 500 watts into one.

Wushuliu, what is your opinion here (on the 300)? You've got a fully turnkey 150*2 with built in SMPS and chassis, all built, with all connectors, etc, for $242 shipped.

That's quite a deal, no? It probably comes under what I would spend for the HiFimeDiy monoblocks (although maybe not by much, it depends on how much I can get parmetal cases), and is certainly much less tha I would spend on the ClassD SD254 kit+case+ power supply.

I've been reading some on diyaudio.com and at least the TI chip that the "Genius 300" is well regarded. What would you do? hifidiy or this other option?
