There have been so many iterations of VPI platters that it's hard to know exactly which one you are talking about. Some questions:

- is the new one the black MK IV platter
- or is it acrylic
- do you mean will the MK IV platter fit on the MK III bearing
- or do you mean will the MK IV bearing fit into the hole from the MK III

I suggest you call VPI and ask them directly. They are usually pretty helpful.

The even bigger questions I have is (1) are the platters the exact same diameter, otherwise your speed will be screwed up, and (2) does your tonearm have enough VTA travle to compensate for the additional 3/4" of platter height?

I already have access to a SME spacer Wayner. Thanks to the Thorensjunkie
I tried to call VPI but there closed from Sept. 6th to the 21st so I can't call
them till tomorrow and they will probably be busy the first day back.
Tim (Thorensjunkie) told me it will work but I'll call just the same..........Bill

Unfortunately we still don't know what platter you are talking about from the Aries. Is it black, just like the MK III platter? What does the bearing look like on it? Does that bearing measure the same as the MK III bearing?

I'm asking this because VPI changed the bearing from the old, original MK IV bearing, going to a nut type configuration and I believe the diameter changed on it at that point, so you would have to drill the plinth to make it fit. They also changed to an inverted bearing type at another point, which also has a different sizing I believe.

The best bet is to wait until VPI gets back from holiday, or just look at both bearings and take measurements, if you can.

Good luck

VPI just emailed me and said it should drop in with no problem but as Wayner stated I'll have raise the
tonearm SME makes a spacer for just that. Sorry Bob you did ask about the platter, it's white not black.
The Thorens Junkie has a lot more experience than me I'll have stop by and see him if I get the platter
and bearing.

Thanks to Bob M and Wayner for your help.........Bill

I installed the new platter and as VPI stated it was like it was made for it
Even with the arm adjusted all the way there is not enough height and I'll
will need a bedplate spacer for sure

Until you let Paul McCartney and John Lennon out of your turntable plinth, you'll never have enough space for the tonearm height.

That looks very nice pumpkinman. That is one thick platter. Should be nice and quiet.

Are you using a mat on the platter?
