SOLD: Pioneer PL-71 Direct Drive Turntable

I have a vintage Pioneer PL-71 Manual Direct Drive Turntable for sale.  I am the original owner, and it has been in storage for a number of years.  This is still considered one of Pioneer's best turntables with high quality construction.

Cosmetic Condition:  It is in beautiful condition for it's age.  The heavy metal and wood base is in near perfect condition and the walnut veneer on the top wood portion still looks fantastic.  The hinged dustcover is made of very high quality thick acrylic, supported by heavy duty metal hinges and is in good condition with just a few very small minor scuff marks on the rear of the top.

Operating Condition:  The cast aluminum alloy platter is driven by a brushless DC servo-controlled direct-drive motor and is very quiet with low wow and flutter.  The platter has strobe markings cast into the outer edge and has two finger holes for removal. There are separate pitch controls for 33 rpm and 45 rpm.  The precision high quality S-shaped tonearm has a lightweight removable metal headshell.  The cueing mechanism has lost much of its damping, but the mechanism does work.  There is a lot of interest for the PL-71 on forums, and many have disassembled the cueing cylinder and piston and reassembled with new silicone damping fluid.

It takes a minute or two to come up to perfect speed.  I believe the motor is fine, as the 45 rpm has true speed in the approximate middle of the adjuster range, and is able to be adjusted + or - off of true speed a more or less equal amount.

The 33 rpm speed adjuster however, is close to the maximum + for true speed.  It can go a little faster than true speed, but not much.  It's fine for normal playback, but not enough range for a musician that needs to tune to a higher than normal pitch.  It's possible the potentiometer is off, but probably more likely that a capacitor in the 33 rpm portion of the control circuit is now out of spec.  The controls are not super-sensitive or touchy though, and it's very easy to adjust to speed and does hold steady after the initial brief warmup.

I ran it for about 6 hours last evening and checked it every hour or so, and each time it was rock steady on speed and required no further adjustment.  My house is temperature controlled, so I'm not sure if there would be a difference if the ambient temperature was outside of say a 65 - 85 degree F range.

Cartridge:  An Ortofon OM 5E cartridge is included.  The stylus has about two years of moderate use, but I can't really attest to its condition or know if it needs to be replaced.

Accessories: I will include a bonus Shure SFG-2 Stylus Force Gauge, a $25 value.  Other included accessories are a Discwasher thin gray conductive fiber mat, original OEM RCA phono cable with integral ground wire and the Owner's Manual.

Packing Materials: All of the original internal Styrofoam packing pieces are unbroken and in good condition.  There is a molded recess in the two bottom pieces for the removable platter, a molded Styrofoam block that covers the rear portion of the arm including the pivot, and a separate compartmented Styrofoam box for the removable headshell and counterweight assembly.

Payment and Shipping:
I am asking $100 plus insured shipping or local pickup in Tucson, AZ.  Although the original packing materials are in good condition, I will double box if shipped.  Payment by PayPal is preferred with no additional fees.
