WTB: DAC OR CD PLAYER - FOund one!
« on: 24 Aug 2010, 05:05 pm »
I am wanting to buy a good DAC in the $200 or under range. Something like a Maverick Audio, Lite Dac, Scott Nixon, etc. Second choice would be a player in that range. Payment will be made via Postal Money order. Send me a PM or reply here.

Thanks-
Michael

I have a very nice Scott-Nixon Chibi Saru non-oversampling DAC (coaxial digital input) with the upgraded 3XDC psuhttp://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=76484.0

IIRC, Scott said the DAC chip drives the outputs directly (no output buffer) so ideally need high input impedance connection such as tube amp for best performance.  (edit: found this on the Scott Nixon website:  "Total load of above 10k to work best.  Most preamps and integrated amps (particularly tubed) are fine.  Just have to be careful with passive pre/power amp combos as they can dip well below 10k total load.")

I am not sure what would happen, I just remember him telling me that the Chibi works best with high input impedance.  Don't even know what the detrimental effects of low input impedance will be (I am guessing it might just be you have to turn up the volume control, but not sure).

I would contact Scott Nixon directly and see what he thinks: http://scott-nixon.com/

Sorry, I mis-read your post to say 100k. My amp at 30k should be fine. I sent you a PM.
