Tube Amp and the OB-7
« on: 15 Aug 2010, 09:04 pm »
Is anyone running a tube amp with the OB-7's?  Can you share your experience?  What is the recomended wattage for a tube amp with these speakers in a mid size room?

Thanks in advance.

Me, :green: 30 watts of power or more is good.

I've used a 75 wpc tube amp and it sounded great (Mcalister PP150-8).  I loved the combination, personally.

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking about a DIY version of the Dynaco ST70 but with a VTA ST70 driver board, has anyone heard the VTA board? Impressions?

After getting the speakers completed, I cant shake this damm DIY bug, I gotta build something.

Do you have a servo sub yet?  :eyebrows:
My OB7's sound great, but the servo sub is like the icing on the cake.

Maybe a ClassD audio kit is in order, im running a SDS254 on my ob/7's and they have never sounded so good. Even being endorsed by AfordableAudio and Gary Dodd.

I do have the servo sub, it rounds out the OB-7's nicely.  I've seen the Class D amps and thought maybe a pair of monoblocks ..... but for SS amp it would have to be really good to beat my MAC4200 receiver, its about the sweetest sounding SS amp I've ever heard, it would have held its own with a lot of the gear I heard this year at the Capitol Audio Fest.  For some reason Ive got my sights set on tubes, maybe its the glow.

Danny Ive seen the photos, they are stunning to look at and knowing of Mr. Dodds reputation, I've no doubt the sound is exquisite.  I'm rather suprised they have not sold todate. However, sadly, they are out of my price range, hence the DIY quest.

Yeah, I am really surprised that someone didn't jump all over those.
