I wanted to share a recent find (CD Title -"Music for two" see below) that might be of interest to those looking for something different and amazing. I've seen Bela Fleck (banjo) twice and Edgar Meyer (upright bass) once in concert and found myself listening to this recording with an all to easy sense that I was in the audience hearing a live performance.   I've never enjoyed listening to more than a few minutes of solo Banjo but teamed with Edgar Meyer's Bass I was completely surprised. I would describe the music genre as a mix (see what you think). If your system produces nice accurate bass I think you will enjoy.

Have you heard any of the Bela Fleck and the  Fecktones projects with Victor Wooden on bass especially the live recordings?.  The Flectones are my Bela Fleck favorites.

The most recent concert I attended included Zakir Hussein (the tabla player).   it was really something to hear the masterful percussion with Bela and Edgar.

I think it's a great album. The DVD is interesting too. Victor is fun and a great showman, Edgar is a master. I haven't found any Bela I can't get into. 

There is a great DVD of theirs (the Flecktones) "Live at the Quick" with many unique artists playing with them.

"Music for two is good", Victor Wooten is a bass monster, and along with Jeff Coffin, & "Future Man", Bela Fleck & 'tones rock!! Seen them twice, their chemistry with the audience is very special!

Seen Bela countless times with many different people and groups in and around North Carolina. But for something completely different, try Perpetual Motion. Never thought I'd like classical on the banjo but dang it's good. Also try Acoustical Planet 1, 2 and 3.

Living in Nashville has given me an opportunity to see Fleck and friends at many local venues.  In addition to the previous mentioned favorites, I also like Outbound, The Bluegrass Sessions, and many of his early albums on vinyl (Inroads comes to mind)

Also, check out Strength In Numbers, Telluride Sessions with Bela, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Connor, Sam Bush, and Edgar Meyer.

If you like World Music take a listen to Bela Fleck and Toumani Diabate on the kora. I saw them perform together a couple of days before they played at Telluride last year.

Edgar on the other hand has put out some great stuff with Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas,Mike Marshal and others. Check out Short Trip Home, Hop Skip and Wobble and Uncommon Ritual. Great musicianship and music on these three albums.

If you're looking for another somewhat unusual application of the banjo 16 Horsepower is worth checking out. I've seen descriptions ranging from "just your basic accordian-banjo-drum power trio" to "Appalachian Gothic" to "William Faulkners prose rendered as music" (that last one from an Amazon review here http://www.amazon.com/Secret-South-16-Horsepower/dp/B00004WJCL/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_ttl_in)

Certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I *really* like them, and have never heard anything like it.
