I have been a long time fan of Von Schweikert for about 10 years now.  I have owned the 4JR's, VR1's, VR2's, TS150's and the LCR15's.  I always loved the holographic presentation of their speakers but thought the center channel (LCR15) was lacking, so I went a different rout via Aerial and Legacy.  I know they have the Vision center channel but that is priced out of my league.

I am tempted to get back into the Vons but have not heard anything on surrounds or a center channel to match the VR-33's.  Does anyone have any information on this?  Thanks

Hello Colem9,

There is a smaller VSA Center to match with the VR 33.

Just mail to service@vonschweikert.com and ask for the details.

Enjoy, Cor

There is LCR-4 (center) and TS-3 (surround) which will match your VR-33.

Herewith is the press release for LCR-4 & TS-3.

Designed for use with the VR-33, VR-4, and VR-5 Series of speaker models, the new LCR-4 is a giant step forward in the area of vocal intelligibility at a reasonable price point.  This new center speaker uses very high quality drivers designed by Scanspeak of Denmark, the company who supplies Wilson, Magico, YG Acoustics, and other top quality manufacturers who use these drivers in systems costing up to $150,000/pr.

Since the twin 178mm (7”) bass-mids have to reproduce both the bass and midrange frequencies, it is a challenge to design a driver that will reproduce the human voice with extreme clarity, while also being asked to reproduce deep bass frequencies at a high volume level.  In order to obtain the maximum vocal intelligibility, the LCR-4 uses specially designed drivers that were optimized for this function, and consist of high-tech laminated cones driven by patented Low Distortion Motors.  The Revelator 1” tweeter has a long throw design, chambered rear cavity to reduce resonance, specially treated fabric dome, and the Low Distortion Motor.   This tweeter combines both high detail with extremely smooth sound, especially in the important vocal range.

LCR-4 SPECIFICATIONS
Frequency Response – 32Hz to 25kHz (+/- 3dB)
Impedance – 4 ohms nominal
Power Rating – 50 watts to 200 watts r.m.s.
Sensitivity – 90dB @ 1watt 1/meter
Size – 9.5” tall x 22” wide x 14” deep
Weight: -  51 lbs raw, 60 lbs packed for shipping

Construction -  Triple-Layer laminated sandwich of resin impregnated MDF, artificial stone, and rubberized felt, 75mm total thickness, with honeycomb internal bracing.  This hi-tech wall eliminates the colorations found in competing systems and is one of our “secret weapons” in the vocal clarity of this model.  Bass loading is an infinite baffle, sealed box for maximum vocal clarity.

Bass/Mids – 2 pcs Scanspeak treated-paper units, 7” dia, with 38mm high power voice coils, Low Distortion Motors, cast frames, copper clad pole piece, and long throw suspensions.  This is the same driver used in speakers at $15,000/pr.

Tweeter – 1 pc Scanspeak silk dome Illuminator tweeter, Low Distortion Motor, rear chamber cup, cast metal frame, and Ferrofluid liquid cooling for high-temperature protection.  This tweeter is used in speakers costing $34,000/pr.

Input – One pair of WBT satin finish Rhodium plated five way binding posts/

Crossover – Fourth Order Global Axis Integration Network using premium film/foil caps, air core inductors, and metal film resistors,

Warranty – Ten Years, parts and labor (excluding abuse such as amplifier clipping).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March, 2010.  Murrieta, California.  Von Schweikert Audio is pleased to announce a new surround speaker system, the TS-3, developed for use with the VR-33 main tower speaker system and LCR-4 center channel speaker..

Since the VR-33 uses high quality drive units designed in Denmark,  we have used the same brand of speaker components in the new TS-3 to enable correct timbre matching.
Generally, the rear surround speakers are not played as loud as the front speakers in a typical movie, so surround speakers do not have to be engineered with high power ratings or expensive parts used for main speakers in the front.

For these reasons, the speaker components are not 100% identical to the drivers in the VR-33 or its matching center channel, the LCR-4.  However, the build quality and sonic performance are in agreement with our VR-33 and LCR-4.  The engineering trade-offs were simple – make the new TS-3 sound great, but don’t use up too much of the customers money to do it.  We saved money by using Black Ash veneer on the cabinet instead of an expensive Steinway Hi-gloss finish.

The TS-3 is a 6.5” two-way system with a powerful paper/composite bass-mid and a sweet sounding 1” silk dome tweeter, driven by a high quality crossover not normally found in surround speakers at this low cost.  To ensure clarity, we made a very heavy duty cabinet with 50mm composite walls to prevent vibration and unwanted resonances.

SPECIFICATIONS

Woofer – Scanspeak-designed 6.5” woofer with composite/paper based cone and Low Distortion Motor.  This bass-mid was designed to match our VR-33 and LCR-4.
Tweeter – Scanspeak-designed 1” silk dome tweeter with Low Distortion Motor. This tweeter was voiced to match our VR-33 and LCR-4 systems.
Crossover – Global Axis Integration Network with 24dB/oct performance, film and foil capacitors and air core inductors are used for low distortion and zero coloration.
Power Rating – 10 watts minimum, up to 100 watts maximum.
Impedance – 8 ohms nominal.
Sensitivity- 87 dB @ 1 watt / 1 meter.
Size – 14” tall x 9” wide x 12” deep.  Sealed box design.
Weight -  20 lbs each.

Cheers,
Dan.

By the looks of it, they should be timbre matched with Jr Mk3 Euromods as well.
