I know this doesn't immediately pertain to Bryston, but I am so sick of bad recordings. Can anyone help me find quality recordings? What should I look for? Is there a certain record label I should look for? It is such a slap in the face to be overcome with such excitement over a new artist, and then become so sorely disappointed by the recording quality. I mean, really, what is the point of purchasing fine equipment if there is minimal to power it. :banghead:

Deutsche Gramophon. Classical and opera mostly.

ECM. Contemporary jazz.

I can't answer for every disc but the couple I've gotten from the Concord Music Group are pretty good.  I haven't bought anything from Rounder Records recently but most of what I have seems to be decently recorded.

Thank you. I noticed one of my favorite bands is on there, whom I have never been overly disappointed by a recording. Rush.

Audio Circle is more than just manufacturer's forums.

Take a look through The Music Circle

There are some very good suggestions for particular genres and artists.

There is also a great thread in the Salk forum called : Outstanding Demo CDs

I sometimes forget about the other circles. Gracias!

I think it is a betrayal by an artist of his/her fans to release their work on a bad recording.

Most contemporary recordings of random labels are mastered (very) hot. You could as well listen to them on FM radio. The CD won't sound any better.

This is an excellent recording by Doug Macleod.  Genre is Blues/Acoustic/Roots.  This particular album is a Hybrid SACD disk on the Audioquest label. I'm posting this here because I think he is a very good singer/songwriter with some well recorded albums and many have not heard of him.
