Last week's Tosca

I just wonder what Woodsyi and the rest of you thought of last Saturday's Met broadcast of Tosca. The audience obviously thought a lot of it and I must say it was pretty well done. Just asking!

Callas/DiStefano/Gobbi- Tosca (Angel) at La Scala.

Pardon, just realized this is the wrong topic.  But, I can't say I know what is the right topic.  Haven't heard Callas in 30 years.  My bad.  But, tonite, I know what all the fuss about her is about.  Boy, do I.  Happy to discuss.  Try, anyway.  I've picked myself up off the floor.

Sorry I missed this post. :duh:
I also missed the performance.  :duh: :duh:

I did some back tracking and ran down some highlights.  They sound good even through my computer speakers.  Kaufmann and Terfel I have heard and liked.  I haven't heard Racette before but she does a good job here even though she is little shaky at the top.  I really have to hear the whole thing to feel the drama but they seem to emote in what I hear.  Good stuff.  I hope they release this recording in the future so I can hear it on my good speakers.  Like Jim above, I like the '53 La Scala one with Callas, Gobbi, di Stefano and de Sabate conducting (the original mono recording on vinyl) the best but I like so many other ones too.

Here are the YouTube highlights of the broadcast.

Recondita armonia
Mario, Mario
Va, Tosca
Vittoria, vittoria
Vissi d'arte I couldn't find a video for this performance.  This is only an excerpt from an earlier Houston Opera performance which was the first time she ever sang Tosca.
E lucevan le stelle
