Off topic: Bias lighting

I'll start here since I always do. I've got a 50" Pioneer Elite Plasma which I love. Never really looked into the issue of bias lighting, which sounds to me like putting a 6500K light behind the tv to improve picture contrast/quality. Anyone of you audio/video guys know where I can find kind the "how to" or "all about" for this subject? Any experience with this in your own theater setting? Anyways, off to AVS forums and google!

Home Theater & Video Circle would have been the place for this topic, not a loudspeaker Circle. But regardless, that's up to you & Jim Salk.

I've had a Ideal-Lume 18" 6500K light from CinemaQuest behind my Sony XBR CRT HDTV for over 6 years & I swear by it. Better colors, easier TV viewing on the eyes, nice background border lighting. I have replaced my German made florescent bulb once, got about 5 years out of the original one. Mine has a ballast that I'm unable to use a dimmer on so I have to adjust the light output via filters. The newer ones have the dimmer so it's less of a hassle. I highly recommend an Ideal-Lume along with an ISF Calibration for anyone who's serious about their TV viewing,,, like me.  :thumb:

Levi over at NY RAVE Circle uses one also, maybe he'll chip in if he happens to notice this offtopic thread.  8)

Thanks, I can post over there as well. If Jim would like this moved, he's more than welcome to.

I have three Ideal Lume 18" I've never used.  When I had the set calibrated (Pioneer 141 FD), it was suggested that I really did not need them given our particular situation.  And, given we've never suffered from eye fatigue and the set definitely doesn't suffer performance wise, I guess he was right.  I should think about listing them on Audiogon.

HERE is an old thread on the subject and it includes some good info on the subject of Ideal-Lume lighting with a plasma TV, specifically Levi's as shown here.  :thumb:

ctouhey -

Before you think about listing them on Audiogon, let me know what you have and what you might want for them, like in a PM or something. I have a Pioneer Elite, I think the 1140, which I think is pretty much the same model you have.

As far as I can tell, the CinemaQuest is pretty much the only quality game in town. Most things I find on the web point towards that Ideal Lume product.
