Finally saw this at my favorite luxury theater, that must be going bankrupt (there was one other couple at the 9:50 showing on Saturday night).
I have to say I liked it. I have flown enough to be able to relate at least partially to Clooney's character. I didn't learn anything new about carry-on luggage and getting through security, which was a bit of a disappointment. I do check luggage since I usually go somewhere for at least 5 days. But he was so methodical and obsessive-compulsive about travelling it was almost scary.
I thought the 3 main characters did a great job and seemed very realistic. What is eerie is that I know women who are like those 2 women, and it had an impact on me when events unfolded in the movie.
In another way I can't really relate to the Clooney character, since i had a taste of traveling once for 6 weeks, but only to the job on Sunday and back home Friday night. I couldn't take another week of that contract. But, Clooney was immensely believable as that character who flew all the time, he had me believing there are people like that.
I almost had to laugh out loud when Clooney met the captain, but I can't spoil it by telling you why.
The opening sequence of the shots out the airplane window of different parts of the country really worked for me - this film really makes a fetish of air travel.
Technically this was a comedy but it really left me with a pensive sadness, like some of the old Jack Lemon movies about real adult life that I saw growing up.
