BP6 & Headphones

BP6 & Headphones

Hi everyone.  :D

Just ordered a pair of AKG K702 headphones (a steal at current prices).   :thumb:

I'm planning to use my benchmark DAC1 as my headphone amp, but I was wondering about the capabilities of my BP6 for driving serious cans like these.  Is it up to the job?  Would it be competitive with my benchmark?

Question for James...why doesn't Bryston offer a dedicated headphone amp?

The BP6 has a Class A headphone preamp...why bother with anything else?

Depending on your listening habits you may find there is not enough gain for the AKG 701/702's, and they do like lots of current to sound their best. Years ago I remember a number of headfiers  configuring the DAC1's balanced outputs with balanced out to a stereo female 1/4" adapter and it worked extremely well with the Sennheiser 600/650's and AKG 501/701's.
