Bryston B100 with a subwoofer
« on: 4 Jul 2010, 01:00 pm »
I have currently moved my Totem Model 1 signatures into a large room and now realize how much bottom end I am missing.  I was thinking of using a sub.  I would use the pre out to the sub and use the crossovers on the sub to eliminate the highs.  However, the full signal will still be going to the Totem's (unlike a HT setup where you can eliminate the lows from the L / R channels when going to a sub.

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of setup or any thoughts?

I guess the other alternative is to buy floor standing speakers which would seem to be a more costly route and may even require an upgrade to a 4BSST.

thanks

Set the subwoofers low pass adjustment to approximately the natural -6dB down bottom end of your main speakers. This results in a smooth transition between the sub and mains without any unwanted peaks. You may need to adjust the phase control of the sub to fine tune the crossover point for best sound.

I second that.

Otherwise if the room is really large, floor standers would help but would still be somehow lacking in the really low bass punch. And you would still be thinking "subwoofer". Unless of course you get some really big ones with 15" bass drivers or so.
